Health Professionals Testing Canada Inc. (HPTC)
(formally CBRC Examination)

On March 2, 2023, Corporations Canada accepted and approved the new name ‘Health Professionals Testing Canada Inc.’ (HPTC). The rationale to change the operating name was that the Canadian Board for Respiratory Care was often confused with regulatory boards and had implications that the CBRC provided healthcare. Independent consultants worked with the CBRC to create a name more reflective of their business practices and to limit confusion in the marketplace.

The Health Professionals Testing Canada Inc. utilizes a contracted service provider for registration and administration of all examinations.  Registration for the examination will provide you with access to the HPTC Practice exam.  It is highly recommended that all candidates review the practice exam as it provides insight into the style, format and type of questions as well as provides users an experience with the online testing platform.

The HPTC has three main types of candidates.  Each has different application criteria and requirements.  Please review the following scenarios and complete the application that represents your situation.

First Time Writers:  First time writers who are or will be graduates of accredited training programs.

Non-First Time Writers:  Writers who are graduates of accredited training programs, who were unsuccessful in previous HPTC exam attempts.

Foreign Trained Writers:  Foreign trained applicants will have to have their eligibility approved by one of the regulating RT authorities or the CSRT (representing the non-regulated Provinces) in Canada. Those who are applying to the MARRT for licensure will require approval from the MARRT.
